Michelle first picked up a golf club at the age of 10. Her father, Anthony, introduced her to the game at their local driving range and it wasn’t long before Michelle had a strong love for the game. Growing up on the west coast of Ireland, Michelle became a member at Enniscrone Golf Club. Michelle’s hard work paid off and she was selected on her provincial and national team.

In 2001 Michelle was offered a golf scholarship to play golf in America. She represented the Fighting Camels at Campbell University (N.C). At Campbell Michelle earned a degree in Sports Management. In In 2011 Michelle started her Golf School at Cahoon Plantation, a golf course that understood the value in growing the game of golf for new players and especially children. The Michelle Holmes School of Golf was open for learning!

Michelle and her team have been developing Juniors and students of all ages at the school for the last 5 years.   Michelle opened her school, with Dan Shea, PGA, in Spring 2011 and has had tremendous success in growing Junior Golf in the Hampton Roads area. In 2015, Michelle was offered the opportunity to expand her School to a second location. The Michelle Holmes School of Golf mission is to “create experiences that encourage kids to want to play the game FOREVER”. Laura, Michelle and Dan live by this mission every day by providing a fun and inviting environment for Pee Wees, Juniors and students of all ages.

Dan Shea

While it is evident that Dan Shea has always had a passion for golf, it is his time spent at Cahoon Plantation that has given him the opportunity to inspire the future of golf through his development and support of youth programs. His ability to inspire and his motivation to teach have made Dan the deserving recipient of the 2016 Youth Player Development Award.

Dan was born on May 13, 1984 in Portland, CT to Frank and Mary Shea. Dan has two brothers, Thomas and Brian. At the age of 13, Dan's best friend Julian Freeman introduced him to the game of golf. Dan then convinced his parents to send him to the local summer golf camp. It was at this camp that Dan truly developed a passion for the game which eventually led him to Campbell University. Dan graduated from the PGM program at Campbell University with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and was elected to PGA Membership in 2007. Dan accepted a position as General Manager of Cahoon Plantation Golf Club and it was here that he was finally able to make a difference in junior golf.

Dan is a Co‐Owner of Michelle Holmes School of Golf. Michelle and Dan began the school knowing they wanted to make a difference in each child's life. Their mission is to create experiences that will encourage kids to play the game forever! Michelle Holmes School of Golf has grown to see over 500 juniors each year. This demand led to the newest school location at Kempsville Greens. The continued growth of the school has a large part to do with the newest member Laura Landon, Director of Instruction at Kempsville Greens.

The school provides avenues for players of all skill levels. They have assisted players compete at the Masters for the Drive, Chip and Putt. Started the first PeeWee program in the area and have watched them graduate to the VSGA and Us Kids Local Tours. No matter what direction the child desires Dan, Michelle and Laura will help them get there. One of Dan's favorite things to do is to travel to Pinehurst every year to watch and support the local kids compete in the World Championships. Dan not only sets the precedent on the job, but also volunteers his time whenever possible to the kids. He has volunteered in over 100 local US Kids and Virginia State Golf Association tournaments. In 2015, Dan was awarded Honorable Mention as one of the US Kids Top 50 Instructors.

He currently serves on the Middle Atlantic PGA (MAPGA) Junior Committee, East Coast Junior Golf Summit Committee and is the current Junior Golf Chair for the Southern Chapter of the MAPGA.   Much of Dan's success can be attributed to his mentors. Claude King, PGA (deceased); Adam Schriber, PGA; Gerald D'Amora, PGA and Mike Fentress, PGA. Each taught Dan the importance of leadership in the community and to have a consistent approach to making the junior golfers feel important. Dan's honest and fun loving attitude welcome players of all abilities to try out the game we all love. His philosophy is to the keep the game simple, solid fundamentals, great mental approach and a passion for the game. The most important thing is to always have fun!

Laura Landon

PGA Apprentice

Director of Instruction - Michelle Holmes School of Golf - Kempsville Greens Golf Club

US Kids Golf Local Tour Director

Laura’s passion for golf started at a very young age. Picking up a club for the first time at 5 years old, she quickly discovered her love of the game. Laura grew up on the West coast of Ireland where she represented her school, province and country at a high level. In 2006 Laura was recruited to play College Golf for Old Dominion University (Norfolk, VA). After 4 years of balancing Division 1 Golf and Academics, Laura graduated with a Degree in Sports Management.

Her love of teaching, over competing, was discovered when she interned at The Princess Anne Country Club in Virginia Beach. As an intern at the club, Laura had the opportunity to teach and work with many of their very successful junior classes, camps and tournaments. After her internship was completed, Laura stayed at the club, entered the PGA Program and worked as The Director of Junior Golf.

After 4 successful years with The Princess Anne Country Club, Laura decided to go a different route with her teaching career. Laura’s sister, Michelle Holmes, LPGA, is the Director of Instruction at Michelle Holmes School of Golf at Cahoon Plantation Golf Course (Chesapeake, VA). Michelle opened her school, with Dan Shea, PGA, in Spring 2011 and has had tremendous success in growing Junior Golf in the Hampton Roads area. Earlier this year, Michelle was offered the opportunity to expand her school to a second location. With Laura considering a change in the golf business, they all agreed that Laura would be a perfect fit to join the team by being the Director of Instruction at the second location, Kempsville Greens Golf Club, in Virginia Beach.

The Michelle Holmes School of Golf mission is to “create experiences that encourage kids to want to play the game FOREVER”. Laura, Michelle and Dan live by this mission every day by providing a fun and inviting environment for Pee Wees and juniors of all ages.

Most recently, Laura has taken a position with US Kids Golf as a Local Tour Director for the Richmond area. She will run her first season in Summer of 2016.

Laura and her husband, Jason, live in Virginia Beach with daughter Katie. Laura has always wished she could give her kids the opportunity to experience Ireland just like she grew up. Working for her sister is allowing her the opportunity to take her daughter to Ireland for 2 months this winter (and hopefully every winter moving forward).
